Whether you’re into beauty or not, taking time to look after your skin is something we should all do from time to time. All natural skin care items and cosmetics are becoming increasingly popular as people are more vigilant to issues like animal testing, and concerned by the synthetic ingredients in their products. Take self care to the next level and try out these 3 do-it-yourself natural beauty hacks to get you feeling great in no time.
Homemade rose water
Rose water has been used for centuries for its ability to reduce inflammation and redness and hydrate the skin. You can buy rose water from most stores, but making it yourself is much more rewarding and a great way to feel connected to nature. You can either pick the roses yourself or buy them as a bouquet. Start by removing each rose petal and ripping into smaller pieces. Heat water on a hob, add the rose petals and simmer until they’ve faded to a paler colour. Use a strainer to separate the rose petals and transfer your water into a mason jar or glass container to store until cool. Then once it's good to go, transfer the water into a spray bottle to give your face a refreshing spritz throughout the day!
Hydrating DIY face mask
All natural skincare doesn’t get much better than a DIY face mask with fresh ingredients, and luckily they’re super easy to create. For this hydrating face mask recipe you’ll need an avocado, cocoa powder, and honey. Take a quarter of the avocado and mash into your preferred consistency, then add one tablespoon of your cocoa powder, one tablespoon of honey and stir. Apply to a clean face and leave on for approximately ten minutes, removing with warm water. All these ingredients are great for natural beauty, with avocado’s hydrating qualities, cocoa’s antioxidants and honeys ability to soothe the skin.
Moisturising banana hair mask
From heat damage to colourants, our hair goes through a lot, which is why it’s nice to treat your locks to some TLC every once in a while. This banana hair mask is made with only a few ingredients but will give your hair an instant healthy refresh. Start by blending one or two bananas until they reach a smooth consistency. Bananas have so many nutritional benefits that are amazing for your hair, such as pottassium, vitamin A and vitamin E which all strengthen and heal dry, damaged hair. Once that’s done, add in one tablespoon of olive oil, honey and coconut oil and blend a little more. Leave the mixture on your hair and scalp for around 10 minutes and then rinse and comb your hair thoroughly.
