Nights filled with insomnia and tossing and turning are undeniably hurting our health. While a lot of us suffer with sleeplessness, there are plenty of things you can try to ensure you’re getting the rest you deserve. Here’s five easy methods to help you finally achieve a full, good night’s rest!
Drink hot tea before bed
Drinking tea before bedtime will soothe your body, relax your muscles, and calm your mind. Often we can tend to focus more on how we feel physically rather than mentally, and if you’re stressed or anxious this can lead to tension in the body and make it almost impossible for you to achieve a good night’s rest. Go for herbal teas such as chamomile and avoid black tea, green tea, and white tea as these often contain caffeine.
Take a warm bath
Taking a warm bath or shower before bed will leave you relaxed and ready to attain a good sleep. This is a wonderful way to soothe your body, mind, and soul. It's also a place where you can be in deep thought or even sing your lungs out, or even clear your head after a busy day.
Prepare things for the next day
For some people, It may be helpful to take care of morning tasks the night before. This could mean putting the coffee grounds in the pot so it’s ready to brew in the morning, or laying out your outfit for the next day. Also, always make sure to finish anything work related the night before, meaning you won't have to scramble in the morning to finish. In doing these small tasks, it enables you to cross more duties off our list to complete, instead of procrastinating. Trying to fall asleep with a million tasks and thoughts swimming around in your mind is not the way to achieve the rest we’d all hope for!
Take a walk before bed
Exercise before bed is a great way to get rid of that build up of energy. The best time to complete a walk could be after dinner, or even before. You could do this alone, with family, or with a neighbourhood friend. This is a very successful method, and will also give you a breath of fresh air. It will surely provide your body and mind with a new environment and sense of clarity.
Keep your bedroom cool/dark.
Keeping your bedroom at the perfect temperature is one major key to a good sleep. For many people, that means always having a fan placed near them. But, if you have other preferences, accommodate them to your liking. If you have time to lie in in the morning, hang up blinds so the sun doesn't blind you and wake you up earlier than you’d like. Achieving the perfect temperature and lighting in your room is a simple factor that could be the key to a more comfortable sleep.
